A Visualization to End Your Workday

2023.04.03

Most of us can't go from work mode to relaxed mode instantly. It usually takes a bit of time.

Downshift faster using a visualization.

Visualizations can be an effective downshifting technique to use at the end of the workday.

Taking our mind through the same calm sequence of events can help regulate our nervous system and ease it out of the fight/flight/freeze/appease mode it is often stuck in during our workday.

Take off your hats.

One specific visualization I like to practice at the end of a workday is to picture myself taking off each of the “hats” I was wearing during the day, and hanging them neatly on hooks.

“Hats” like:

  • conscientious manager
  • reliable slack-picker-uper
  • knowledgeable contributor
  • responsive emailer
  • conflict mediator

Try it today.

Take 2 minutes and give this Ending Your Workday recording a listen. It guides you through a visualization of taking off your metaphorical hats at the end of the workday.
